This Just In: HTC Droid Incredible 2 on Verizon

This morning HTC and Verizon announced the Droid Incredible 2 (aka Incredible S) will be up for sale starting on April 28, this Thursday, for $200 with a 2-year contract. Internally the Droid Incredible 2 uses the same Qualcomm MSM8655 Snapdragon SoC we've seen in other recent releases, including the HTC Thunderbolt. The 8655 combines a single Scorpion core running at 1GHz with an Adreno 205 GPU, all built on a 45nm process. The SoC has 768MB of LPDDR2 DRAM on-package.
The Incredible 2 is a world phone, hence the SIM slot underneath the 1450mAh battery:
We're working on our full review of the phone now but performance is pretty predictable given this isn't the first time we've seen a 1GHz Scorpion and an Adreno 205:
Screen size has increased since the original Incredible, we're now up to 4-inches on the 480 x 800 Super LCD panel. Viewing angles are great as are peak brightness, black levels and contrast:
Outdoor usability appears to be an issue despite the move away from AMOLED, the display is just very reflective.
The Droid Incredible 2 comes equipped with two cameras: 8MP rear facing and 1.3MP front facing. I've included a sample shot below:

Well, given that most users aren't willing to constantly jump carriers, Verizon has no choice but single core for at least a few months longer. Same for Froyo, IIRC the Xperia Play might launch with Gingerbread and there is a leak for the Droid X, but everything else on Verizon is still on Froyo. Ugly is up to the user to determine, what I wonder is why they are releasing a phone so close in spec to the Thunderbolt. For an extra $50 I see no reason not to get the slightly larger screen and LTE.Speaking of the Thunderbolt, when will that review be posted? I'd say the same about the MyTouch 4G, but that has been waiting so long I assume it is canceled.

Because actually I think it's one of the best Android phones out there. Very good performance, great battery life, and I like the curvey design. The back reminds me of a Thinkpad and the front is all gorilla glass and aluminum.. Pretty nice if you ask me.phinn - Tuesday, April 26, 2011 - link

Probably glare from a very white tail in bright sunlight...And no, cell-cameras can only compare to old, or poor quality, point n' shoot cameras.
On trips and events, I still bring along my point n' shoot camera... soo much better pics all around .

In related news, your point and shoot could never replace my GH2, which could never replace his 7d, which could ...well, I think you get the point.There's this thing called optics that says it ain't going to happen. There is some room for improvement in sensor noise and processing, but you're probably not going to overcome the inherently crappy optics of a smartphone camera. A tiny lens plus a tiny sensor equals crap. Fine for most people who want to showcase their drunken debauchery on Facebook, but not for much more.

I have been eagerly awaiting your thunderbolt review only to be disappointed every morning when I check the site at work hahaWould also be nice to see if you all can comment on the root and custom rom situation as the TB is slightly locked but getting cracked and rumors are this will be even more locked than the eurpoean Incredible S as Verizon does not like us playing with our phones.....if it is all locked up then I will be happy for another year with my Droid Incredible (the original - wide open phone)
