My suspicions were correct, after having played through close to 40% of Half Life 2, its impact on me is not as great as it would have been had I not spent my first several days of ownership benchmarking it. It is still fun but I'm just not dying to play it every free moment I have, which is a shame, I absolutely love it when I've got a game that I can't put down.
In any case, I've been working on another article that has taken precedence over Part 3 of the HL2 coverage for now. The problem is that I'm having incredible issues with my test beds for this particular article, which is becoming more and more frustrating. Everytime I think I have a solution in sight, things just get worse. I'll be able to explain all of this in much greater detail when I publish the article.
It's time to get back to the frustration that I call my testbeds...

This review (IMO)is for the ASUS A8N-SLi board. Retail samples made it out a while ago. What worries me is the problems with the test beds.....I was hoping these would be stable out the box(0r).shortylickens - Monday, November 22, 2004 - link
Dont feel bad dude. People who review movies for a living probably lose appreciation too.jkostans - Monday, November 22, 2004 - link
Yeah the studdering problem is very widespread. It's terribly annoying, i don't know how valve let this easy to find bug slip through the QA process. I already beat it, and CS:S doesn't have the problem so I guess I don't really need a fix now :(Anand Lal Shimpi - Monday, November 22, 2004 - link
LazyboytonyMy main Half Life 2 testbed doesn't have any stuttering issues, but it is also a 100% clean install with nothing but Half Life 2 and drivers on it.
I did have stuttering issues on Vinney's computer however. On first glance I'd say it's disk related, if you have the ability to try running a clean install on a separate hard drive with nothing but HL2 and drivers on it, see if that fixes your problems.
Take care,
Anand

Hi Anand,I'm sure you're playing HL2 on your own uber-leet machine. However, I was wondering if you have experienced audio stuttering during your gameplay?
For me, it ruins gameplay and it just puts me off hl2. Its probably the cause of my headaches where things don't feel as real as it should be.
