It's the first day of school

...of what will hopefully be my last semester at NC State, it's not that I haven't had a wonderful time these past 3.5 years...wait, I haven't :) Don't worry (I doubt that you are losing sleep over it) but my rant on education is coming, I'm just waiting until the end to see if something magical happens in the next several weeks that would have made it all worth while and not make me want to dedicate a large portion of my life to changing the way the system works...here's to hoping.

CES was fun, CES was great, not only because there were a handful of interesting gadgets to look at, but because it reminded me of the wonderful days of the old Comdex. The 129,000 people that attended, the extremely long walks from the North Hall to the South Hall and back (and they were long), the 30 minute meeting blocks starting at 8AM and ending at 6PM, being lucky if you could actually eat breakfast, lunch or dinner on a given day, spending two days in Vegas and feeling like you've aged 15 years by the end of the two-day "week" ... believe it or not, it's a feeling that I've missed. The past couple of Comdexes have been horrendous, but at CES I felt at home; call me masochistic.

Because I was so tied up at CES I could not check the comments to my last blog update, but to my surprise no one pointed out the fact that I misspelled 'ridiculously' - twice. Vinney actually pointed it out to me on the phone tonight, I was shocked; I always kick myself when I get an email about a word I misspelled and I do it enough to not be surprised, but for some reason I was. I know, random babble :)

I hope you all have enjoyed the CES (and not-so-CES) coverage, I just posted Derek's conclusion to the days there. The team I took to CES consisted of Andrew, Derek, Kris, and Wesley and the team did wonderfully if I do say so myself. I gave the team the task of covering the entire CES show in the first day, an unprecidented accomplishment if I've ever seen one as they did indeed cover the show in the first day. The second day we were there, we were wiped and we did a little bit of cleanup but for the most part the entire show was covered in 1 day. Great job guys. It's a tough job to do, maybe one of these days we'll hold a contest and bring one of you guys with us so you can get an idea of how grueling it is.

The front page slowness should have hopefully been fixed by Jason Clark, our fearless webmaster, while we were at CES. It was caused by some bad external code that evaded us at first but has since been caught. I'd like to give you a final date for the updated front page but I'm not sure yet, Jason has another baby on the way and he's due sometime soon so that will obviously play a role in how things work out. We're all very excited for him, he's been a great father to his first and only daughter Jada and I'm sure him and his lovely wife Karen will raise their son in kind. The parents that they are to Jada are people I strive to be like and I hope I will be like when the time comes for me.

I visited what will hopefully be the last potential wedding location today, I think we've found the one. Now it's time to put on my business hat and go see how much negotiation can be done to get the ridiculous (yee i can splel) catering prices down.

On my last free night before school I watched K19, mostly because I always wanted to know how good Harrison Ford's Russian accent was - it was not.
