2004 Storage Benchmarks

If you'll remember back to my article on WD's Raptor, I managed to put together a more updated set of storage benchmarks than what's been commonly used. I was still caught up in the CPU and GPU worlds at the time and had no one else to pass the storage reins to so the return of hard drive reviews to AnandTech was short lived. With Derek around however to play around with the CPUs and GPUs, I've had some time to pick up where I left off.

I've recorded traces using the new 2004 Winstones, and now the task is simply one of picking what drives to review. If there are any particular comparisons that you'd like to see, let me know, with the test suite done I will focus on gathering drives for the first few roundups over the next several days.

Today also marks the end of my first senior semester at NCSU, exams start next week and luckily for me they also end next week. So by next Friday I will be a free man, at least for a couple of weeks before my last semester starts up. Next semester should be an interesting one as I'm enrolled in a 2nd level verilog/VHDL class (the languages used to make CPUs, GPUs, etc...) as well as a compiler design/theory class - hopefully those will be more interesting than the wastes of time that compose the Computer Engineering curriculum at State :)
