Logitech Acquires Streamlabs, Aims Game Streamers

In the recent years game streaming has become a phenomenon worldwide and therefore demand for hardware and software tools for live streaming among professional gamers is on the rise. Streamers have become celebrities in their own right for groups of users, and therefore have influencers with significant audiences. In a bid to get closer to this crowd, Logitech this week agreed to acquire Streamlabs, a developer of streaming software tools for streamers.
Logitech will pay approximately $89 million in cash for Streamlabs and will pay an additional $29 million in stock if revenue growth targets are met. Software tools designed by Streamlabs will complement Logitech’s hardware for gamers and streamers, including webcams, headsets, microphones, and various controllers (keyboards, mice, joysticks, etc.). As a result, Logitech will be able to offer an almost complete package of hardware and software to professional game streamers that have influence on their audience across platforms like Twitch, YouTube, Mixer, and Facebook.
Streamlabs hopes that with Logitech it will be able to achieve more than it has so far. Here is what Ali Moiz, Streamlabs’ chief executive officer, said:
“Streamlabs and Logitech both share a strong passion for gaming and a dedication to serving the global community of gamers and streamers. Joining with Logitech allows us to keep doing what we love and be bolder than ever on a much bigger stage.”
In the recent years Logitech took over numerous companies specialized on gaming and content creation: in 2016 the company bought Saitek brand from Mad Catz, in 2017 the firm acquired Astro Gaming, and in 2018 the manufacturer got Blue Microphones. With its portfolio of hardware and software for gamers and streamers, there are just a few things that Logitech lacks at present, including chairs, tables, and capture cards.

When I read the title, I was sort of hoping that Logitech was jumping in on offering a streaming game service. While what they are doing is notable, it's not as relevant for as many of us that don't really find it very interesting to watch other people play video games.imaheadcase - Friday, September 27, 2019 - link
But millions will watch a TV set of other people playing sports. Same concept. Its big business.Almost everyone interested in gaming at some point now will watch a video of the game before they buy it than read actual reviews. Its more true to a test of a game to watch it being playing than reading about it from someone who prob played it for a hour and gave his opinion.
I actually never heard of streamlabs or mixer though before this article.

NOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!! Streamlabs offers invaluable FREE services to streamers, this will obviously go the way off the dodo as Logitech try to get a return on that investment. absoutely....I not like companies do this to people lives in to wit:
let us buy everyone, shut things down/put a price on all services they used to be known by so we can work toward buy even more, rinse repeat till we rich as #$%# and the ones who got us all the way to the top..sorry, your not a freind we know anymore"
Razer, Logitech, Corsair, Steelseries (the one I hate most besides Creative and Nvidia for doing what they can to effectively cause the company they want to commit "suicide" so they can pick over the scraps......
yeh, no, we do NOT need more of that #$%#$% we need everyone to stand in way to prevent it.

yes, indeed it is..but, that business is made of folks/the world...be far more "picky" about what one does with their actions...I not mid left overs...but not for decades...it gets "foul" ...no wonder so many "people" are left constant pissed off / hurt.. companies not watch what the #@$%@ they are doing..

Some companies offer a service at a low enough cost that although the operation remains afloat, the business isn't profitable. The purpose of such a startup is to sometimes lure in a larger company that sees intentionally built inefficiencies as low hanging fruit that can be addressed to turn it into a profitable division of a larger business. The original owners sell and then walk away set for life having always had the intention of making an attractive acquisition out of their startup from the beginning. That's pretty much status quo in the startup/small tech company realm these days so don't be shocked if this business was founded with that purpose in mind.Hul8 - Saturday, September 28, 2019 - link
So Streamlabs is supposed to go on forever, offering their services for free? :-oThey decided now was the right time to cash out and get something back from the work they've put in. Why else would a COMPANY offer free services, other than to grow their userbase and then either
1) sell user information/access to users' attention (like social media companies); or
2) make a profit when they sell off the business?
That said, we don't know that the business model will change drastically.
