For the better part of the past few years now, Qualcomm has been making a serious and concentrated effort to establish themselves as the dominant player in the mobile VR space. And as the first generation of standalone VR headsets have come out, those efforts on both the hardware side and even more on the software/dev support side are finally paying off.
